Five of the eight Rinne turned away in the third came in the final 1:17 with Hutton lifted for an extra attacker — including a stop on a slap shot by the Sabres’ Jack Eichel with 15.4 seconds remaining.“That was one of our better defensive games all year,” Rinne said. “Guys did an extremely good job just staying with it. … They have a lot of team speed and they’re top couple of lines are pretty dangerous.”Sam Reinhart had a goal for Buffalo, which is 0-2-1 since a 10-game winning streak — with each loss coming by one goal. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zach Parise hit another milestone in his distinguished career Thursday night. He was more pleased about helping teammate Nico Niederreiter out of a prolonged scoring drought.Parise had a goal and an assist to reach 700 points http://www.officialflames.com/authentic-...-jaromir-jagr-jersey , leading the Minnesota Wild to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.Niederreiter scored on the power play and Devan Dubnyk made 27 saves for the Wild, who have won eight of 10. Mikko Koivu had three assists, giving him five in his past two games, and Mikael Granlund added an empty-net goal.Dating back to March last season, Niederreiter had gone 22 regular-season games between goals.“Every scorer has been there,” Parise said. “It’s a tough time. I’m happy for him that he got it over with and he can move on.”Jake Muzzin had a goal and Jack Campbell stopped 21 shots, but the Kings were unable to put together their first three-game winning streak of the season.Parise put the Wild ahead 2-1 at 14:42 of the second period, getting his 700th point in 887 NHL games. Parise is the fifth player born in Minnesota with 700 career points, and his 339 career goals are the most among active American-born players.“It’s always nice to hit milestones,” Parise said. “It is rewarding when you put in the hard work for it and then you get the results. You could see the relief, got some color back in his face. You never want a teammate to be in that situation, but it was great to see him get one.”Niederreiter let out a yell as he was mobbed by teammates after scoring his first goal since March 24, and Wild coach Bruce Boudreau thought his play improved immediately.“Right after that he looked a lot faster for the rest of the game,” Boudreau said. “It’s obviously weighing on your mind when you’re a scorer and you haven’t scored in a long time.”The Wild have a power-play goal in five of their past six games, going 7 for 23 since Oct. 27.Muzzin’s first goal of the season gave the Kings a 1-0 lead at 4:42. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Casey DeSmith is not the highest-paid or most accomplished goaltender on the Penguins. Yet he’s playing like it, a development that’s helped Pittsburgh keep its season from unraveling. The backup thrust into a starting role while two-time Stanley Cup winner Matt Murray recovers from a lower-body injury and shaky play stopped a career-high 48 shots as Pittsburgh fended off a third-period Boston rally to slip by the Bruins 5-3 on Friday night.DeSmith improved to 7-2-1 in his last 10 starts, keeping his cool even after the Bruins erased a two-goal deficit in the third period by scoring twice in 54 seconds. Jake Guentzel restored Pittsburgh’s lead by tipping home Kris Letang’s point shot with 9:13 to go, and DeSmith did the rest.“It’s always fun, though, when you’re getting peppered as long as you come out on the right side of things,” DeSmith said. “It was a little (chaotic) there at the end but glad we pulled it out.”The Penguins appeared to be firmly in control after Zach Aston-Reese’s short-handed goal — Pittsburgh’s first down a man in 57 games — with 58 seconds to go in the second period made it 3-1.Boston’s Chris Wagner and David Krejci drew the Bruins even when they beat DeSmith less than a minute apart in the third. But the Penguins executed perfectly on a faceoff in the Boston zone, with Sidney Crosby winning the draw and then sending the puck back to Letang. He shot it and Guentzel extended his stick to get a piece of it. The puck slid by Jaroslav Halak for Guentzel’s 13th of the season.“I know he’s going to shoot it Youth Matthew Tkachuk Jersey ,” Guentzel said. “I just put my stick there and hit it. We run that (play) in practice. Sid kind of gave the nod so we knew it was coming. Obviously a great play by Sid.”Brandon Carlo scored for the first time in 115 games for Boston and Halak stopped 24 shots but the Bruins had trouble with DeSmith, who has filled in capably with Murray spending most of the first two months of the season dealing with injuries or a serious dip in form. The team activated Murray on Wednesday but coach Mike Sullivan has chosen to stick with DeSmith, though Murray is likely to make his first start since Nov. 17 on Saturday night when the Kings visit. DeSmith insists he won’t change his approach now that he’s engaged in a full-on competition battle for playing time.“I think when I get a game, I go out there, try to win, try to play my best,” DeSmith said. “(Just) keep working hard in practice, doing all the same things. That’s the way to keep having success is to not change anything once you get a hold of it.”The Bruins dominated for long stretches thanks in part to sloppy play by the Penguins, but DeSmith managed to keep Pittsburgh in it.“He’s a good goalie, but I thought our scoring chances weren’t A scoring chances Michael Frolik Jersey , especially in the first period,” Krejci said. “But that’s how it goes sometimes.”DeSmith’s flashiest stop came in the first. He was sliding to his right when Brad Marchand picked up a bouncing puck and moved to DeSmith’s left. The goaltender reached back with his glove and plucked a shot out of midair to keep the game scoreless.“I just kind of fell over and stuck something over there and thankfully it went in my glove,” DeSmith said. “That was not technique.”Derek Grant gave the Penguins the lead shortly after DeSmith’s save on Marchand. Phil Kessel, playing in his 277th consecutive game with the Penguins — the fourth-longest streak in franchise history — and 723rd straight overall, doubled Pittsburgh’s advantage 1:56 into the second period. The Bruins responded by pressing Smith, who eventually relented when Carlo fired a laser from the top of the right circle 11:53 into the second for just the seventh goal of his career and first since March 4, 2017, against New Jersey.“It had been a long while,” Carlo said. “But I feel like with the way that I’m starting to put the puck to the net a little bit more, the opportunities were coming for me to shoot the puck Authentic Mikael Backlund Jersey , tonight especially.”Though Boston eventually pulled even, Pittsburgh still ended up pulling away, with Aston-Reese putting in an empty-netter with six seconds left to ice it.NOTES: Letang exited late in the third period favoring his left leg and did not return. … If Kessel stays healthy, he could break Craig Adams’ club record of 319 straight games played near the end of the regular season. … The Bruins were 0 for 2 on the power play. OTTAWA http://www.jaguarscheapstore.com/myles-jack-jersey-cheap , Ontario (AP) — Despite giving up two goals 8 seconds apart in the final minute of the second period to tie the game, the Carolina Hurricanes seemed to have no issues with a letdown in the third period on Sunday.Justin Williams scored the winning goal and broke a 4-4 tie with a power-play goal at 7:34 of the third and the Hurricanes defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-4.One minute later, Williams nearly scored again but he was robbed with a great glove save from Andres Nilsson, who came on in relief of Senators starter Marcus Hogberg in the second period.Justin Faulk and Brock McGinn each had a goal and an assist and Carolina won its fourth straight game. Jaccob Slavin and Dougie Hamilton also scored for the Hurricanes, who got a 27-save performance from Petr Mrazek.“It was surprisingly easy to (mentally) park (the end of the second period). I know you’ll probably look at me and roll your eyes, but good teams pick each other up,” Williams said.“Mrazek came in and said ‘that was on me’ and we instantly said ‘No, no, no. You’ve had our back all the time, so it’s time for us to pick you up’, and that’s what teams do, they pick each other up. They don’t let someone stew about it and we had a great third period and won the game.”Jean-Gabriel Pageau tied the game 4-4 in his return to Ottawa’s lineup after missing the entire season to date with a torn Achilles he suffered on the first day of training camp.Just 8 seconds earlier in the second period, Rudolfs Balcers scored his first NHL goal in his second career game as the Senators had their losing skid stretch to eight games. Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel also scored for Ottawa.Hogberg started in goal for the Senators and allowed three goals on 16 shots. Nilsson turned aside 11 of the 13 shots he faced.“It was fast. The first few shifts were shorter than I expected,” said Pageau of his first game since April. “It’s hard to prepare at this level and it doesn’t matter how hard you work out, it’s totally different when you come into a game like that.“Right off the bat I tried to get myself in the game. I take pride in playing for the Sens and playing this game at home after everything I’ve gone through since the first day of camp. It means a lot to me.”The Hurricanes had a fast start, scoring on two of their first three shots less than five minutes into the game.Faulk opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 1:12 of the first period with a point shot that beat Hogberg. Then Youth Yannick Ngakoue Jersey , at 4:28, McGinn scored a short-handed goal as he slid a backhand through Hogberg’s legs on a breakaway.“We’re not doing enough of the little things to win right now and it sucks,” said Senators forward Chris Tierney, who had two assists.“We didn’t start well and that hurt us. It just seems like every night it’s something else and we need to figure out a way to get everything going at once to win in this league.”That was all the scoring in the opening period although the Senators created several good opportunities, but were unable to beat Mrazek.Ottawa finally did break through at 2:32 of the second period when Duchene beat Mrazek from in tight after a cross-crease pass from Bobby Ryan. The Hurricanes regained their two-goal lead and knocked Hogberg from the Senators’ goal at the same time as Slavin scored at 6:13 with a slap shot.Ottawa got that one back at 12:17 on a power play as Dzingel beat Mrazek with a backhand, but at 14:54 Hamilton beat Nilsson to put the Hurricanes up 4-2. It was just the second shot Nilsson had faced. Then came the final-minute fireworks as Balcers scored at 19:12 and Pageau scored 8 seconds later to tie the game 4-4 heading to the third.Notes: Nick Paul and Ben Harpur were scratches for the Senators while Clark Bishop was a scratch for the Hurricanes. … Sunday’s matchup was the first of three this season between the teams. Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman now has something in common with Boston Bruins counterpart Don Sweeney. They both tapped the New York Rangers before the NHL trade deadline Monday.A day after the Bruins landed power forward Rick Nash from the Rangers, the Lightning followed suit by acquiring New York captain Ryan McDonagh in a multiplayer trade.”We take note and we look around, and we feel the moves made in our conference, those teams are better,” Yzerman said shortly before the NHL-leading Lightning played at Toronto. ”But our moves were not to keep up with the Jones.”Whatever Yzerman’s motive, it didn’t matter to Rangers GM Jeff Gorton as he continued to overhaul an aging roster.New York also sent forward J.T. Miller to Tampa Bay in a deal that netted the Rangers forward Vladimir Namestnikov, two prospects and two draft picks: a first-round selection in 2018 and a conditional first-rounder in 2019.”Just trying to take it all in,” Gorton said. ”We have a lot of new players, a lot of new faces, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity as we go forward.”The rebuilding Rangers now have three first-round picks, including one from the Bruins http://www.jaguarscheapstore.com/yannick-ngakoue-jersey-cheap , in this year’s draft and seven in the first three rounds. The 28-year-old McDonagh joins a Lightning lineup already well-stocked with elite defensemen. Miller is a two-time 20-goal scorer.”You’re always looking at ways to try and improve your team,” Yzerman said. ”Whatever we were going to do was to improve it and not do it at an outlandish price.”The Lightning weren’t the only contender to part with high draft picks among the 18 trades made on Monday. The Winnipeg Jets gave up a first-rounder as part of a trade to acquire forward Paul Stastny, a six-time 20-goal scorer, in a trade with St. Louis.”Incredibly excited when I first caught wind of it being a possibility, and even the possibility was really exciting,” Jets forward Blake Wheeler said of adding Stastny. ”A really, really great addition.”The Nashville Predators gave up a first-round pick as part of a deal to land forward Ryan Hartman from the Chicago Blackhawks. And the expansion Vegas Golden Knights added to their Western Conference-leading team by acquiring three-time 20-goal-scoring forward Tomas Tatar from Detroit. The Red Wings added three draft picks, including a first-round selection. The San Jose Sharks added size and scoring by acquiring Evander Kane from Buffalo for two picks, including a conditional 2019 first-round selection, and a prospect. The four first-round picks swapped – not including the two conditional selections – were the most to move on the final day of NHL trading since at least 2008, according to league figures. And no first-rounders had moved on each of the previous two trade-deadline days.Sharks general manager Doug Wilson attributed the amount of high draft picks swapped to how tight the playoff races are, particularly in the Western Conference. Before games on Monday, six points separated the Sharks, who sit second in the Pacific Division standings, and Colorado, which is 11th in the West.”It’s supply and demand of those players that can make a difference Authentic Patrick Mahomes Jersey ,” Wilson said. ”Some people would say pricey, but it almost always is pricey at this time of year when you have competitive juices flowing.”Not all teams found takers. The Ottawa Senators were unable to move captain Erik Karlsson, a two-time Norris Trophy winner who will be making $7.5 million in the final year of his contract.General manager Pierre Dorion acknowledged he fielded offers on every player over the past few months. When it came to Karlsson, Dorion said there was no ”franchise deal out there” for his franchise player.Even Sabres general manager Jason Botterill acknowledged having difficulty finding a trade partner for Kane, who is completing the final year of his contract.”The bottom line is we had one legitimate offer for Evander and that’s why we worked off of it with San Jose,” he said. The teams who began the day holding the East’s final two playoff spots made deals.Eighth-place Columbus acquired veteran forward Thomas Vanek from Vancouver and veteran defenseman Ian Cole from Ottawa. The seventh-place New Jersey Devils obtained forward Patrick Maroon from Edmonton for a 2019 third-round pick and prospect J.D. Dudek.Three teams added players via waivers. The Philadelphia Flyers claimed Johnny Oduya after the two-time Stanley Cup-winning defenseman was waived by Ottawa. The Flyers, who have won five straight and are 9-0-2 in their past 11 games, lost defenseman Mark Alt, who was claimed on waivers by Colorado. And the Calgary Flames added forward depth by claiming Chris Stewart, who was waived by Minnesota.—AP Hockey Writers Larry Lage and Stephen Whyno, sports writers Josh Dubow, Mitch Stacy and Dan Gelston, and freelance writers Denis P. LOUIS (AP) — Amid a disappointing showing that fell well short of Stanley Cup expectations Cody Eakin Jersey , the St. Louis Blues fired coach Mike Yeo a quarter of the way into the season and named Craig Berube as his interim replacement.St. Louis general manager Doug Armstrong announced the change hours after Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Kings, the Blues’ third shutout in the last four games. At 7-9-3, the Blues are in last place in the Central Division, and their 17 points rank next-to-last in the NHL, ahead of only Los Angeles.Something had to give for the Blues after they failed to make the playoffs last season, falling one point short when they lost to Colorado in their 82nd game. They lost in the second round under Yeo in 2017, after he was a midseason replacement for fired coach Ken Hitchcock. After no coaches were fired last season Youth Colin Miller Jersey , the 45-year-old Yeo is the third NHL coach to lose his job this month, following the Kings’ John Stevens and the Blackhawks’ Joel Quenneville. Yeo went 73-49-11 in parts of three seasons with the Blues, with one playoff series victory.Berube had been an associate coach on Yeo’s staff since the summer of 2017. Before that, he was coach of the Blues’ AHL affiliate and has NHL head-coaching experience from parts of two seasons with Philadelphia. The 52-year-old Berube is a midseason replacement for the second time, after replacing Peter Laviolette with the Flyers three games into the 2013-14 season. Berube played 1,054 NHL games and racked up 159 points and 3,149 penalty minutes.Yeo joined the Blues as an assistant in 2016 after five seasons with Minnesota. The Wild made the playoffs in three of Yeo’s four full seasons Womens Deryk Engelland Jersey , and he was fired 55 games into 2015-16.The Blues came into the season with championship aspirations after acquiring center Ryan O’Reilly in a trade from Buffalo and signing forwards Tyler Bozak, Patrick Maroon and David Perron. Yeo was considered to be on the hot seat, and two consecutive losses led to his dismissal.Following the late-night announcement, the team called a news conference for Tuesday morning with Armstrong and Berube. New York Islanders co-owner Charles Wang - who first came aboard in 2000 - has passed away at the age of 74.Wang is survived by wife Nancy Li, three children and his three grandchildren, via LIBN.com. Born in Shanghai, China James Neal Jersey , Wang co-founded Computer Associates International, Inc. (now CA Technologies).Co-owner Jon Ledecky shared the following statement:"We are heartbroken by the news of Charles Wang's passing. New York Islanders's co-owners Dewey Shay, Scott Malkin and I were privileged to be selected by Charles to be his partners in the team. Charles loved the Islanders unconditionally. The arena at Belmont Park will be just one of his many legacies left to the team and to Long Island. His unique personality, his wonderful sense of humor and his extraordinary wisdom will be greatly missed."advertisingWang and former CA Technologies chairman Sanjay Kumar bought the Islanders in 2000 for a reported cost of $187.5 million. The Islanders had not won a playoff series since 1993, and they had missed the postseason in six consecutive years. The Islanders finally began to turn a corner in the early years of Wang's ownership. They qualified for the postseason in 2002, 2003 and 2004 - thanks to his willingness in letting the front office spending more money when it was necessary. via SportsnetThe franchise faced an uncertain future for a decade, due to financial and attendance problems and the fact its lease ended with the Nassau Coliseum in 2015. But Wang worked extensively and got the Islanders a home at the Barclays Center Jonathan Marchessault Jersey , where they have played ever since. Thanks to Wang's efforts, the Islanders now have long-term security in Brooklyn.advertisingBefore the 2014-15 season, Wang sold part of the ownership to Ledecky and Scott D. Malkin. It was later reported that those two would move into majority ownership, which happened in 2016.Wang worked hard and passionately to revive an Isles' franchise that struggled throughout the '90s and most of the 2000s. There were some fine moments under his ownership, and perhaps the franchise wouldn't have lasted in New York without his efforts.Charles Wang was 74.

BUFFALO Chris Tierney Jersey Womens , N.Y. (AP) Three years after bottoming out, the Buffalo Sabres found a way to achieve a new low.A 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night assured Buffalo of becoming the NHL’s first team to finish 31st following this season’s addition of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.”Honestly, no. I don’t think anyone really envisioned this, certainly not myself being on the outside coming in,” said Jason Pominville, the former Sabres captain who rejoined the team last offseason after being acquired in a trade with Minnesota.”With the group we had, I still don’t believe we should be where we’re at. But we are there. And things got to change.”First-year coach Phil Housley was defiant when asked if he ever second-guessed what he signed up for upon being hired in June after the Sabres cleaned house last spring.”I believe in this organization. I believe in our management. I believe we’re going to turn this thing around,” Housley said. And yet the Hall of Fame defenseman had to acknowledge how difficult this season has been.”This is just where we are as a group,” Housley said. ”Let’s be honest, we have a long way to go.”Having already extended their franchise-worst playoff drought to a seventh year, the Sabres clinched last place for the third time in five years – they were 30th in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.Their fate this season was sealed in losing their home finale in a matchup of two of the NHL’s worst teams.Matt Duchene scored his team-leading 27th goal and the 30th-place Senators upped their total to 67 points, five ahead of the Sabres, who have just two games left.Max McCormick, Ryan Dzingel and Alexandre Burrows, with an empty-netter, also scored for the Senators. Craig Anderson stopped 32 shots, and Ottawa improved to 2-8 in its past 10.”We play for each other, we play for our fans, we play for the crest on the front,” Anderson said of the Senators’ objective to not finish last. And the Senators won with a roster depleted of numerous regulars, including captain Erik Karlsson Tyson Barrie Jersey , who remained in Ottawa to be his wife after the couple’s first son was stillborn two weeks ago.The Senators scored three straight times after Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly opened the scoring on a breakaway goal 30 seconds in.McCormick tied the game 2:26 later by tipping in Mark Borowiecki’s point shot. Duchene scored 3:14 later by blasting in a shot over Chad Johnson’s left shoulder after teammate Ben Harpur broke up Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen’s clearing attempt at the left boards.Dzingel made it 3-1 at the 3:21 mark of the second period, seconds after a tripping penalty against Buffalo’s Marco Scandella expired. Dzingel collected a loose puck in the right circle and used Sabres defenseman Casey Nelson as a screen to sneak a shot under Johnson’s right arm.Johnson stopped 30 shots and Kyle Okposo also scored for the Sabres in closing Buffalo’s home record at 11-25-5.The Sabres’ league-worst 11 home wins matched a franchise low for any year, including the lockout-shortened 48-game 2012-13 season, when Buffalo went 11-10-3. Buffalo also went 11-19-9 during a 78-game season in 1971-72.The Sabres’ final four home losses came against four of the NHL’s five-worst road teams: Arizona, which entered the day 27th, Detroit (28th), Ottawa (30th) and Montreal (31st).”I expected a lot more,” O’Reilly said about Buffalo’s record. ”But you can expect all you want. It comes down to doing it and getting better. And obviously, we got worse.”NOTES: Senators RW Bobby Ryan did not return after sustaining a lower body injury in the first period. He was hurt when teammate Jean-Gabriel Pageau fell back into him after being checked by Buffalo’s Jack Eichel. … Sabres C Zemgus Girgensons will miss the final three games with an upper body injury. … Senators RW Marian Gaborik missed his seventh consecutive game, and Boucher said the player is visiting a specialist to determine the severity of a nagging back injury. … Corey Syvret made his debut as an NHL referee. Syvret played for OHL London in 2006 when he lost a fight, decisively, to current Sabres forward Jordan Nolan.UP NEXTSenators: Continue season-closing three-game trip Friday night at Pittsburgh.Sabres: Open season-closing two-game trip Friday night at Tampa Bay.— WASHINGTON (AP) A salary-cap squeeze threatened to slam the Washington Capitals‘ Stanley Cup window shut. Instead, it busted it wide open. When the dollars didn’t add up to be able to keep a handful of key contributors to back-to-back Presidents’ Trophy-winning teams, the Capitals went bargain hunting to sign bought-out winger Devante Smith-Pelly, who general manager Brian MacLellan termed a ”project.” Up against the cap at the trade deadline, they acquired lightly used defenseman Michal Kempny from Chicago.”Some of the best acquisitions are ones that are under the radar, ones that fit almost seamlessly,” coach Barry Trotz said. ”Some of the best deals that we’ve made are those ones that, even myself I’m like, `Hmm, that’s a little bit of an upgrade Matt Martin Jersey Womens , not a big one.’ And they ended up being the biggest upgrades because they’re not sexy names.”Kempny said ”probably nobody knew my name when I came here or played in Chicago,” and Smith-Pelly had his name on the back of three other NHL teams’ jerseys before this season. Now they’re key pieces for a team one win from the Stanley Cup after the Capitals hit on exactly the kind of moves every championship contender is looking to make. All it cost was a one-year deal at the league minimum to sign Smith-Pelly after he was bought out by the Devils, and a third-round pick to get Kempny from the Blackhawks. Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Braden Holtby have led Washington to this point, up 3-1 on the Vegas Golden Knights with the chance to raise the Cup after Game 5 on Thursday night. But they wouldn’t be here without the contributions of Smith-Pelly and Kempny. After a seven-goal regular season, Smith-Pelly has six goals in the playoffs, including potential series daggers in Games 3 and 4 of the final. This isn’t exactly where the 25-year-old thought he’d be just under a year ago when he found out a minute before the buyout deadline that the Devils were cutting him.”You only get so many chances to stick,” said Smith-Pelly, a 2010 second-round pick who bounced from Anaheim to Montreal to New Jersey, never putting up more than 17 points in a season. ”I knew that this could be my last one, so I kind of took the buyout personally and listened to what the coaching staff had to say and what they wanted, and just went out there and did it.”Smith-Pelly wasn’t even guaranteed a roster spot when he signed. He developed into a teammate on and off the ice that helped propel the Capitals to another division title despite losing forwards Justin Williams, Marcus Johansson and Daniel Winnik, and defensemen Nate Schmidt, Karl Alzner and Kevin Shattenkirk last summer. He was the Capitals’ Masterton Trophy nominee for perseverance and dedication to hockey after taking an incident of racist ”basketball, basketball, basketball” taunts and turning it into a positive when he facilitated money be donated to Fort Dupont Ice Arena in Washington.”What happened was obviously pretty negative,” Smith-Pelly said. ”But for the people of Chicago to feel that they needed to donate money and for me to give it to Fort Dupont I thought turned a pretty bad thing into something that could change many kids’ lives in that area.”Smith-Pelly always seems to find the positive. He brushed off a puck to the face at the morning skate Monday and scored a back-breaking goal that night.Kempny has done the same. Stepping on a puck during pregame warmups led to a spill and stitches across the bridge of his nose, but the 27-year-old missed no time. He then pumped in a Game 4 goal that helped put the Capitals on the verge of winning the Cup.It’s the latest impact Kempny has made on his new team after fitting in as a top-four defenseman alongside John Carlson.”He played big minutes against top players, be it the (Evgeni) Malkins and the (Sidney) Crosbys, and he’s done a really good job Seth Griffith Jersey Womens ,” Trotz said.” He’s just one of those players that is effective – efficient, effective, gets it done. You’re not going to see a lot of offense. He’s got some great looks, though. You talk about a guy who’s developing maybe from more of a stay-at-home type of defenseman to a guy who recognizes opportunity.”This is the opportunity Kempny had been waiting for after being a third-pairing defenseman with the Blackhawks, and sometimes a healthy scratch. Coach Joel Quenneville wasn’t a fan, so the Capitals made a deal arguably more meaningful than Evander Kane to San Jose, Paul Stastny to Winnipeg, or Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller to Tampa Bay.”Adding Kempny helped a lot,” MacLellan said. ”I think we had him projected right. He’s a good skater, a good puck mover. I know he was not always in the lineup in Chicago, but he was our No. 1 target going into the trade deadline.”Carlson watched video of Kempny’s games to get an understanding of his new defense partner. Kempny had to regain his confidence after feeling like the ”last warm body on the bench.””When you are not playing, you can’t be a better player. It’s impossible,” Kempny said. ”I never played in Chicago against top lines. I didn’t know if I could play against them or not. But I got a chance here, so I proved to myself that I can play against top lines.”The Capitals have shown they can play against and beat anyone, with Smith-Pelly and Kempny proving to be perfect pieces for a team eying a championship.”Everything’s worked out very well,” Smith-Pelly said. ”If we end up winning, that would be the cherry on top.”—More Stanley Cup coverage: apnews.com/tag/StanleyCupFinals

DETROIT (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes dominated Detroit through most of the game Chris Wagner Jersey Womens , but needed a timely block by defenseman Justin Faulk to beat the Red Wings and snap a three-game losing streak.Faulk, who also scored a goal, made a crucial short-handed block on a shot by Detroit’s Andreas Athanasiou with less than five minutes left and Carolina leading 2-1. Goaltender Petr Mrazek was down and out after making a big save on Frans Nielsen when Athanasiou appeared to have an empty net and a chance to tie the game. But Faulk blocked the shot in the crease.“We put ourselves in a tough spot. I got beat and Petr made a huge save on the back door on Nielsen,” Faulk said. “Then full scramble mode, everyone is diving around.”Jordan Martinook added an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal Carolina’s 3-1 victory.Michael Ferland scored in his fourth straight game and Sebastian Aho assisted on Ferland’s second-period goal. The assist stretched his season-opening points streak to nine games (four goals and 10 assists), surpassing the franchise record of eight by Victor Rask (2016-17).“There was no doubt who was the better team. I’ve liked our game. I’ve liked it all year,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said.Mrazek, who was drafted by Detroit in 2010 and played a number of seasons with the Red Wings, made 20 saves.“It always feel great when you win,” Mrazek said. “It doesn’t matter which team or where you are, especially after the three losses we had. I’m really happy today.”Athanasiou scored for Detroit and Jimmy Howard stopped 36 shots in the loss. The Red Wings were outshot 36-12 in the first two periods.“That’s 100 percent inexcusable, to not be ready to work, to not be ready to compete at the start of the game through the second period,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said.Athanasiou made it 2-1 with 7:58 left when he tapped in a pass from Thomas Vanek. It was Athanasious’s third goal.Faulk’s power-play goal gave Carolina a 1-0 lead with 1:35 left in the first period. He got his first goal of the season on a slap shot from the high slot area, about 15 feet inside the blue line.Ferland made it 2-0 at 8:05 into the second period with a power-play goal. He beat Howard from the inside edge of the left circle. It was Ferland’s sixth goal. The Hurricanes outshot the Red Wings 21-6 in the first period.NOTE: Carolina wore their third jerseys, which are black with red numbers and letters with white trim and the team’s logo in red Alex Galchenyuk Jersey Womens , white and black. … Detroit did not get its first shot until 13:30 into the game, when rookie defensemen Dennis Cholowski managed a shot from the high slot. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jonathan Marchessault had never attempted a penalty shot in his NHL career. He made his first one count Sunday night.Marchessault earned a penalty shot after being hooked by Mark Stone on what would have been a breakaway, and beat goalie Craig Anderson to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators.“I had one in the AHL, I think I did like almost the same move, I just went high glove,” said Marchessault, who leads Vegas with 11 points this season. “I kind of knew a little bit what I was going to do, I just waiting … I was able to put it where I wanted it.”The Golden Knights rallied from trailing 2-0 early and avoided their second three-game losing streak, after consecutive losses at home.Alex Tuch scored two goals and Ryan Reaves added his third of the season for Vegas, while Marc-Andre Fleury made 19 saves.Matt Duchene, Bobby Ryan and Ryan Dzingel scored for the Senators, while Anderson made 49 saves. The Golden Knights outshot Ottawa, 53-22. In their first 10 games, the Golden Knights had 37 or more shots on goal just four times. They had 37 shots through two periods.“Things weren’t going well for us the first half of the game,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. “We were working hard, everything was going well except the puck wasn’t going in the net and we found ourselves down 2-0. … If we would have lost tonight Carter Rowney Jersey Womens , I would have been upset with not getting the two points, but the way we played was outstanding.”The victory, however, didn’t come without the Golden Knights losing another player to injury for the second consecutive game. After losing forward Max Pacioretty, who left Friday’s game after being drilled by Tampa Bay’s Braydon Coburn, forward Cody Eakin left Sunday’s game after being hit in the head by Mark Borowiecki in the first period.“It was a big hit, I don’t think Borowiecki wanted to go over there and exactly hit Cody Eakin in the head,” Gallant said. “But the puck came to Cody right there and he was coming in with a lot of speed …. but I don’t think there was any intent to try and hurt the guy.”Duchene gave the Senators an early 1-0 lead in the first period, and Ryan extended Ottawa’s lead midway through the second period, when he punched home the Senators’ first road power-play goal of the season.“Our players are giving everything they’ve got, we talked about having 60 minutes of keeping it together and that’s exactly what our players did,” Ottawa coach Guy Boucher said “That’s the difference with the previous two games (against) Boston and Colorado, where we played really good for two periods and then just because the other team scored, whether it’s the end of the second or beginning of the third, all of a sudden we start to get out of whack, impatient Luke Schenn Jersey Womens , lose our structure … we didn’t do that tonight. The composure was there the entire game. That’s a big building block for us.”Tuch, who missed the first eight games of the season with a lower-body injury, notched his first goal of the season when he went forehand-backhand to deke Anderson and cut Ottawa’s lead in half. Reaves scored his first career power-play goal when he tied the game with 1:39 left in the second period.Playing a nifty passing game of tic-tac-toe, Dzingel was the beneficiary as he scored his team-leading fourth road goal of the season to put Ottawa back on top. The lead didn’t last long, though, as Tuch scored his second goal 28 seconds later.“It’s a big win, especially since we’re going on the road for two really hard games against two really good opponents,” Tuch said. “I thought we played really well today, we had a lot of shots, we had a lot of guys in front of the net, Craig Anderson played an unbelievable game, but we just kept battling.”NOTES: Vegas went 1 for 5 with an extra man, and is 4 for 37 on power-play opportunities this season. …. Four games, four losses. Not even the most pessimistic of fans could have predicted this start. After four weeks, the Redbirds are the only team in the league without a win. We’re 0-3 at home, where we’ve protected the nest in recent years, and we’ve scored a piddling 37 points total—that’s right http://www.cardinalscheapstore.com/andy-lee-jersey-cheap , less than 10 points per game.Shameful. Inexcusable. Indefensible. It’s hard to fathom how we wound up here, especially considering that we had the ball on 1st and 10 at the Seattle 31 with 2:59 to play and the Seahawks down to one timeout. All we had to do was get a single first down and we could grind down the clock and kick a chip shot FG to win the game.Instead, we鈥?did not do that.Like last week, some poor play on the field was compounded by some seriously boneheaded coaching decisions, and the crowd at State Farm Field was let down once again. Let’s run through the most impactful factors/moments that led to the loss, figure out who’s to blame, and see if there’s any hope moving forward.Offensive Run DefenseSunday had a chance to be a get-right game for the Redbirds run defense. Seattle’s O-line woes are well documented, their starting RB Chris Carson was a late scratch, and their 1st-round rookie Rashaad Penny (brother of Elijhaa) hasn’t done much. Enter third-stringer Mike Davis, who proceeded to run for 101 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries. Adding in contributions from Penny and Russell Wilson, the Seahawks put up 171 yards on 34 carries (5.0 YPC). The Cardinals are now 31st in the league in rushing defense—after finishing 6th last season.Assigning the Blame: The Cardinals have talent in the front seven—Cory Peters has been a rock, and the team has spent recent 1st-round picks on the likes of Robert Nkemdiche, Deone Bucannon, and Haason Reddick. Talent isn’t the problem—it’s scheme. These are 3-4 players trying to adjust to the Carolina 4-3 (when we’re not in nickel, that is) of Steve Wilks and Al Holcomb. The scheme obviously isn’t working with the personnel we have, so it’s on the coaches to adapt. And they simply haven’t thus far.Where to Go from Here: Wilks and Holcomb need to adjust their scheme to the talent of the players of the roster. Consider moving Bucannon back to a hybrid safety role, let Reddick rush the passer more (he had a sack on Sunday), and maybe stop playing so much nickel on obvious rushing downs.A Bad Case of the DropsIt wasn’t all bad news for the Redbirds on Sunday, as rookie QB Josh Rosen passed the eye test and earned strong reviews for his debut start. His numbers were somewhat pedestrian—15/27, 180 yards, and 1 TD—but they could have been much better if it weren’t for all the drops. Stalwart Cardinals writer Darren Urban estimated that Rosen’s numbers would have been about 20/27, 261 yards, and 2 TDs if Larry Fitzgerald(!), Christian Kirk, J.J. Nelson, and Ricky Seals-Jones had held onto several catchable balls. (Plus there was the near-TD by Chad Williams where he was just unable to get a second foot down on the sideline.) The Redbirds WR room has been a known weak spot, and they let the team down big-time on Sunday, costing us precious yardage and, potentially, points.Assigning the Blame: It’s easy to blame the players on the field—yes, even Fitz—but GM Steve Keim deserves a ton of blame for not doing more to augment the position during the offseason—or even during the season. (Rishard Matthews is available, after all.) Plus, it’s worth pointing out that on a day where J.J. Nelson was doing this for the Cardinals, John Brown was doing this for the Ravens.Where to Go from Here: J.J. Nelson probably needs to be cut at this point. Keim needs to do what many of us who play fantasy football do on Sunday mornings—scour the free agent list for a WR and hope they can produce.Kicker WoesIt seems like points are always at a premium in Cardinals/Seahawks games Youth Budda Baker Jersey , and Sunday was no exception. You can’t have your kicker miss two FGs in these kinds of games and expect to win. Granted, neither of them were gimmes (45 and 50 yards), but didn’t we stick with Dawson because he’s a steady veteran? He didn’t play like one on Sunday.Assigning the Blame: Obviously, Dawson should be expected to hit the potential game-winning 45-yarder, but it shouldn’t have been that long of a kick, which is firmly the coaching staff’s fault (more on that below). But you can also argue that Dawson shouldn’t have been kicking in the first place. It doubly hurts knowing that preseason star Matt McCrane hit a game-winner for the Raiders later Sunday afternoon. Yet another Steve Keim decision that didn’t work out.Where to Go from Here: Dawson probably needs to go too. He just doesn’t have the leg strength/accuracy required of an NFL kicker anymore. This was obvious even in the preseason. Keim needs to find a stopgap replacement for the rest of the season and then address the position in the offseason.Another Questionable 3rd-Down RunSimply put, the coaching staff completely bungled the endgame on Sunday. As I said above, we just needed to gain one first down on our final possession. That would have accomplished two things: 1) it would’ve made the would-be game-winning FG much easier, and 2) it would’ve let us drain most of the clock down to prevent Russell Wilson from doing exactly what he did—march down the field for the win if we missed the kick.It started with that 1st and 10 with 2:59 left. We got a Mike McCoy special: unimaginative run into the pile. Then on 2nd and 8? You guessed it—another unimaginative run into the pile. But the worst playcall came after the two-minute warning—just like it did last week. With all that time to call the perfect play—remembering again that we had to have a first down—we got鈥?yep, another unimaginative run into the pile. At least it was David Johnson getting stuffed this time. Small consolation.Keep in mind that Rosen was 4/5 for 39 yards on the drive up until that point. If you can trust your rookie QB enough to put him into a tight game in the 4th quarter last week, you can trust him enough to put the ball in his hands in a tight game in the 4th quarter this week, right? One completion and you can drain the clock down and kick a 35-39 yard FG (instead of 45) to win.Instead鈥?unimaginative run into the pile, Russell Wilson gets two minutes to gain 30 yards, and Sea Bass kicks the game-winner. Ugh.Assigning the Blame: Mike McCoy makes the offensive playcalls, but Steve Wilks says he can “veto or confirm” any playcall. However the decision to run it up the middle on 3rd and 6 at the Seattle 27 was made, it was a lousy decision and the buck stops with the man in charge—Steve Wilks. Whether he confirmed McCoy’s call of the run or just declined to veto it doesn’t matter. It was the wrong call and it cost us the game. At this point, I wish he’d just veto Mike McCoy entirely, to be honest.Where to Go from Here: Fire. Mike. McCoy. I’m gonna keep saying it until it happens.Final ThoughtsSunday’s loss was the result of several of our players being put in a position to fail by our GM/coaching staff, and the one player who could have saved the game—Josh Rosen—not being given the chance to do so. It’s that simple. It’s not just the 0-4 start, but the way it has happened—these last two weeks especially—that has many Cardinals fans wondering if we have the right leadership on the sidelines and in the front office. But Steve Keim just signed an extension, and Steve Wilks and his staff are in their first year on the job, so we may be stuck with them for a while. They, like our players, need to respond in the right way to this adversity. Before the Bears game, I wrote about how the Cardinals have been plagued by passivity lately. That proved true against the Seahawks with the way known weaknesses (WR, LB, K) came back to bite us and the way the coaching staff screwed up the endgame with overly conservative decisions. We’ll learn a lot about our leadership by the way they respond. If McCoy, Nelson, and Dawson continue to have jobs, if we don’t try to bring in reinforcements, if we continue to struggle to score points and stop the run, if we continue to be passive鈥?we’ll have learned that these are not the men to lead our franchise. But if we do something to try to change our fortunes—even if it just amounts to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic—I think most Cardinals fans would feel a little bit better about the direction of our team. Cold comfort to be sure, but better than the hot air these guys have been blowing so far.

Having spent the entire season on the practice squad http://www.oaklandraidersteamonline.com/seth-roberts-jersey , seventh round draft pick, Marcell Ateman has been promoted to the 53-man roster.Ateman will take the roster spot vacated with the trade of Amari Cooper. The Raiders will not only be looking to replace Cooper’s production but also the 77.6 percent of the snaps he has played in this season.Ateman is a part of the youth movement that will include the debuts of fellow rookies Jason Cabinda and Nick Nelson.Coming out of college, Ateman was seen as more of a big bodied, jump ball target in the red zone. However, throughout the preseason Ateman displayed that his skill set is much more diverse. His combine 40-yard dash time was a 4.62, definitely not a burner but in the preseason he showed run after the catch the ability.Another thing that was impressive about Ateman in the preseason was his hands. His plays in training camp and preseason weren’t enough to earn him a spot on the roster and he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad. After seven weeks, and with Amari Cooper now gone, Ateman is getting his shot. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson explains how Ataman earned it.“Tremendous hands. He’s a guy that on the show team Womens Donald Penn Jersey , he’s constantly making plays against out defense. He stands out as one of the show team practice squad players. Every day it seems like he’s making a contested catch. He possesses great size and great hands and it’s another opportunity for one of our young players to show what he can do,” said Olson Thursday. With the season lost and the team in rebuilding mode, Ateman is one of several young players, including 8 of the team’s nine drafted rookies, who coaches will have the opportunity to evaluate over the remaining 10 weeks. After nine seasons without competition in the broadcast booth, Jon Gruden needed only a few plays of the exhibition season to get his old sideline persona back.A holding call that wiped out a touchdown brought out the temper that earned Gruden a nickname from the slasher movie "Child's Play" during his first stint as coach in Oakland."Chucky came out for a brief moment right there," Gruden said.It was a moment Raiders fans had been waiting for ever since Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay following the 2001 season. Oakland lost the Super Bowl to Gruden and the Buccaneers the following year and managed just one more winning record since. The good will might have ended when the Raiders traded their best player before the start of the season, dealing elite pass rusher Khalil Mack to Chicago for a package that includes two first-round picks.Owner Mark Davis had been recruiting Gruden since he took over the franchise following the death of his father Womens Kelechi Osemele Jersey , Al, in 2011, and finally got his man this past offseason with a $100 million, 10-year contract to replace Jack Del Rio following a 6-10 season."It's an honor to be back here and it's a great story, but I also just want to do everything I can to try to help this team win again," Gruden said. "I love the Raider fans, I love Oakland, and that's the primary reason why I'm standing here."The love is mutual Womens Justin Ellis Jersey , as evidenced by the hundreds of fans who showed up at a preseason party hosted by Gruden at a local sports bar, and the excited crowds at the exhibition games. But for all the nostalgia and Gruden's talk of bringing the game back to 1998 when Al Davis first hired him as a head coach, Gruden will need to show his style has adapted since he last coached in Tampa Bay in 2008.He has won over his players with his passion, knowledge and attention to detail, but none of that will matter without results on the field."What you see is what you get. Rah-rah guy," edge rusher Bruce Irvin said. "I've never seen a person's face stay red for seven periods at practice. The whole practice he is just red. He's a great motivator."Here are some other things to watch:MISSING MACK: Mack held out for the entire offseason and training camp while seeking a long-term contract that came after he was traded to the Bears. His absence leaves a big void. He won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2016 and leads the NFL in QB pressures with 185 1-2 since entering the league, according to SportRadar. Oakland's defense struggled the past few years even with Mack on the field. Gruden and new coordinator Paul Guenther will now need rookie Arden Key and veteran Bruce Irvin to make up for the loss.DRIVE THE CARR: QB Derek Carr went from MVP candidate during a 12-win 2016 campaign to a struggling young passer a year ago as he dealt with an early-season back injury and suspect play from his receivers. Much has been made of how Carr will mesh with Gruden's hard-driving personality, but the early signs are the two are hitting it off. Whether that leads to improved play remains to be seen. Carr will likely take more snaps under center in Gruden's offense than he has in the past http://www.oaklandraidersteamonline.com/frostee-rucker-jersey , but also will have more freedom to change plays at the line of scrimmage."He has a photographic memory. It comes so easy to him," Gruden said. "He's got the offense mastered more than I do, that's for sure."INSIDE PUSH: The Raiders struggled to generate consistent pass pressure the past few seasons even with Mack and Irvin on the outside because of a lack of an inside rush. That's why Oakland used two draft picks to upgrade that spot by selecting P.J. Hall in the second round and Maurice Hurst in the fifth. Hurst had been projected as a first-round pick before being sent home from the combine with a heart issue that the Raiders say is not a concern. Hall and Hurst have shined in the preseason and figure to provide a big boost to the defense.POUND THE ROCK: Gruden has stressed a power-running game since getting hired in January and has the pieces in place to make it work. Oakland has a stout interior of the offensive line with center Rodney Hudson and guards Kelechi Osemele and Gabe Jackson. Marshawn Lynch played well in the second half of last season after coming out of retirement and looks even faster this year. Blocking tight end Lee Smith and fullback Keith Smith provide more support. Gruden hopes Doug Martin can regain the form that helped him run for more than 1,400 yards in 2012 and '15.COVER IT UP: The Raiders have been rotating through cornerbacks ever since Reggie McKenzie became GM in 2012. They hoped they solidified one of those spots last year when they drafted Gareon Conley in the first round, but he played only two games because of injuries. Conley looks healthy now and could be part of the most talented group of cornerbacks Oakland has had in years with free agents Rashaan Melvin, Leon Hall and Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie also in the mix.

you need for Monday http://www.authenticsatlantafalcons.com/...-mohamed-sanu-jersey , Oct. 1 I almost called in today. I had the text to my boss cued up, it was worded properly and it was believable — but I deleted it. I deserve to suffer this early morning, as do all of you. Another brutal, mind-bending loss where the Falcons drop 30+ points on an opponent at home and lose. Let’s huddle together in support as we run through this morning’s edition of Falcoholinks. That ain’t good Matt Ryan has been masterful of late. He’s seeing the field well, he’s getting everyone involved in the passing game — and he’s losing. Yesterday marked the second straight week where the Atlanta offense eclipsed 30 points and still lost, and Matt Ryan became an ignominious recipient of a terrible record. What a disaster. Save for the opening loss against Philadelphia Atlanta Falcons Womens T-Shirt , Matt Ryan has been magnificent. With the defense looking as putrid as it does, he’s going to have to perform at this level going forward if the Falcons want to win games. Hopefully the last two losses are the only spoiled efforts. I’m not so confident. This is pretty damn good While we’re talking statistical history, Calvin Ridley is making some of his own. With his two touchdown performance against the Bengals, Ridley became the first rookie in NFL history to record six touchdowns in his first four games. The kid is very, very good, and he’s been the silver lining in gut-wrenching losses the past two weeks. If you’re ever having a garbage day Atlanta Falcons Hats , throw on the clip of Ridley toasting Cincinnati cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick on a double move for a touchdown. Brilliance. The Falcoholic Live Post-game I admire Kevin Knight’s dedication. I didn’t want to talk to anyone about anything after this one, let alone discuss the game live on the internet. True hero. Kevin was joined by DW and Adnan Ikic for a group therapy session in the wake of the loss to the Bengals. What are the expectations going forward? Are the Falcons still in contention in the NFC South? Give it a listen to hear the guys’ thoughts after what was a horrific loss at home. Words are meaningless We recently opined on what “The Brotherhood” would mean now that the Falcons are facing injury and adversity, and in a thoughtful piece, Dave argues against slogans and coach-speak and gets to the heart of the matter. While Dan Quinn preaches PMA, the fact remains that the Falcons are 1-3 and absent any meaningful adjustment on defense this team might be dead in the water.Falcons sign former Saints CB Taveze Calhoun to practice squad, waive WR Julian Williams Just as the world will never stop spinning Atlanta Falcons Womens Hoodie , Thomas Dimitroff will never stop shuffling the roster. This one perked up a few ears, as the Atlanta Falcons brought in a former Saints player. I wonder if he will get in a lot of office time with the coaching staff.Per the Atlanta Falcons, Calhoun’s one NFL game came with the New Orleans Saints. Is it gamesmanship for the Falcons to sign a former Saints player right before their Week 3 matchup? Probably, but he wasn’t on the Saints’ practice squad when the Falcons brought him in, so it’s within NFL rules. From our Jeanna Thomas back in 2016, who coincidentally used these two teams as an example:He additionally was on the Saints practice squad Womens Customized Atlanta Falcons Jerseys , and spent the offseason with the Miami Dolphins. While the Falcons could definitely use some additional depth with Isaiah Oliver still nursing an injury, Calhoun may be more valuable for some info on the Saints. The coaching staff should have a pretty good idea on their tendencies, especially since Calhoun last spent time with New Orleans in 2016.

4 things we learned in the Detroit Lions loss to the San Francisco 49ers The Detroit Lions were able to push it to the very end but they inevitably fell short to the San Francisco 49ers. Detroit drops to 0-2 with a 30-27 loss and their playoff hopes already seem in doubt. Here a few things we learned in a heartbreaking loss:Detroit needs outside help at cornerThe Lions benched cornerback Nevin Lawson after he had a terrible performance against the New York Jets last week. 2017 second-round pick Teez Tabor took many of his snaps but was even worse than his predecessor. Tabor got embarrassed by rookie receiver Dante Pettis early on for a huge gain and was totally lost on a second quarter touchdown. He got beat all day by everyone from Pettis to fullback Kyle Juszczyk. If neither Tabor nor Lawson can hold their own at CB2 http://www.detroitlionsteamonline.com/tavon-wilson-jersey , then Detroit will need to look at either the free agent or trade markets to find help.Matthew Stafford may have lost some of his magicDetroit’s usually reliable Matthew Stafford is off to a shocking start to the season. While this week’s game against the 49ers was not as bad as his horrid performance against the Jets last week, it is still reason for concern. Stafford seemed to miss passes that he usually nails. His downfield accuracy was awful, missing two passes to Marvin Jones that may have been touchdowns. The quarterback missed on a lot of shorter passes as well and his ball placement was everywhere. His pocket presence was an issue last week and that seems to have carried over to Week 2 when he rolled out of the pocket and into a strip sack in the first half. The Lions usually reliable superstar quarterback is having a terrible 2018 so far and Detroit will need to alleviate whatever is wrong. The run defense needs helpFor the second straight week the Lions gave up a touchdown run of over 60 yards when Matt Breida rumbled down field for a 67-yarder in the third quarter. The defensive front has no gap integrity and the linebackers do not seem to know what angle they should take when trying to play the run from the second level. Teams will be able to run over this defense all season if nothing changes. Detroit needs to find a fix soon if the Lions are to get into the win column in the near future. The pass rush existsDetroit’s lack of a pass rush was one of the biggest stories all offseason and it haunted them in the season opener last week. Something seemed to have changed this week, though. The Lions pass rush had a real effect on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and they racked up 6 sacks. Linebackers Jarrad Davis Authentic Darius Slay Jersey , Christian Jones, Devon Kennard and Eli Harold all got in on the action as the Lions rush looked better than it has in a very long time. While the lack of quality personnel in the front-seven will always be an issue, it looks like the Lions may have creative coaching that can manage to make the most of it.Monday Night Football open thread: Washington at New Orleans Saints Drew Brees will likely be the man of the hour tonight as he looks to make NFL history. Brees finds himself only 201 yards away from passing legendary quarterback Peyton Manning for the most career passing yards ever by a player. As CBS Sports’ Kevin Skiver pointed out, Brees has passed for at least 200 yards in a whopping 92 percent of his home starts as the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints Womens Ricky Jean Francois Jersey , so it’s a safe bet that Brees reaches that mark tonight. Reports state that the NFL and the Saints will pause the game if/when Brees breaks the record to commemorate. For Lions fans, think of the brief game break when Calvin Johnson broke the receiving record against the Atlanta Falcons. Heading into tonight’s matchup against Washington, the Saints are favored by six points with the over/under set at 52.5 points. The Monday Night Football game will be broadcast on ESPN as per usual, and thus available through the WatchESPN app on compatible devices. Kickoff is at 8:15 PM.Who’ve you got in this matchup? Can Washington’s defense slow down Brees enough to keep him from breaking the record? Can Adrian Peterson’s aging legs keep on churning against the Saints defense? Let us know your answers to those and more in the comments section below.

The Broncos are going to release their week one depth chart later today and the rookie Freeman is expected to be listed first. This shouldn’t be a real shock considering he has looked like the starter throughout the preseason. This is what the Broncos expected from him when they selected him in the third round of the 2018 draft as well. So he is living up to expectations and could be on the verge of a breakout season.Freeman is coming off an impressive preseason where we saw him rip off two long touchdown runs and total 3 rushing touchdowns in 3 games. Look for the rookie to be a solid contributor to the offense moving forward. This means veteran Devontae Booker will move to second on the depth chart and fill the third-down/pass-catching back role. A role he fits well and should excel at it. Behind him will be another rookie. That rookie being the explosive Phillip Lindsay. Look for him to come in on passing downs and be a weapon in space. Don’t sleep on Lindsay’s running ability either. The Broncos are going to need their running game to complement quarterback Case Keenum this year so these three backs are very important to the team’s success. I have high for this unit and I believe they will be a key contributing factor in this offenses resurgence.

With Benny Cunningham racing to the left pylon, Thomas appears out of his regular nowhere and pushes the running back out of bounds at the — hahahaha no of course he doesn’t do that Bradley McDougald Jersey , instead he karate chops the ball loose in the final foot of the field, then flicks it surreptitiously out the side of the end zone. Threat negated. Touchback. The film:Observations:What an angle on the replay. It allows us to watch the tip of the ball tease the end zone, but never reach it while still in Cunningham’s possession.Underrated is Thomas’ follow through — that right hand swivels back toward the ball and either knocks it out or causes the runner’s arm to knock it out.I like to imagine Byron Maxwell’s next words: “DID I JUST SEE WHAT I JUST SAW?”There will never be another Earl Thomas. Up 28-14 with less than three minutes remaining, the Seattle Seahawks were forced into a punting situation from their own end zone. If the Detroit Lions had a miracle in them, it would have involved either blocking the punt, returning it for a touchdown, or at least setting up great field position to score quick and maybe get one more opportunity to tie it up. No such miracle was coming. Not for the Lions at least.Seattle punter Michael Dickson ended up tucking the ball Cheap Germain Ifedi Jersey , scrambling in the back of the end zone, and then running forward for a first down, sealing the Seahawks’ victory. A “gutsy” call by Pete Carroll? Not really. It just so happened that the Lions were so unprepared for Dickson to keep the ball that they didn’t defend a potential fake so when the rookie punter saw his opportunity to end the game, he took it.He was supposed to take a safety.A safety would have cut the lead to 28-16, but it gives Seattle a much better advantage than if the Lions had scored a touchdown quickly on the punt or following the punt. No safety was necessary though, because Dickson says, “I just had to go for it” when he saw the opening for a first down. After practice on Wednesday Customized Denver Broncos Jerseys , Denver Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph answered a lot of questions about the team and moving forward. What stuck out to me the most, however, was some comments halfway through the presser about what Demaryius Thomas said about the teams operations.Joseph expressed disappointment in those comments and disputed the perception that Thomas clearly had with how the trade to the Houston Texans worked out. The break between DT and the team is over, but the fallout has been somewhat illuminating for fans on what may or may not be going behind the scenes. The team has been playing (and losing) some close, hard fought games. Coming out of the Bye, the Broncos will take on the Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals - all teams with playoff ambitions. It will be interesting to see how this group continues to battle through this “same as last year” kind of adversity.Fast start gives way to long day of mistakes in Broncos’ 27-14 loss to Ravens The scoreboard read Ravens 27, Broncos 14.But it could just have easily read Broncos 20, Broncos 14.That’s because when you give up 120 yards on penalties to a home team with a streaky but explosive offense - especially with a short field to boot - you might as well just hand over the points too.“A lot of the penalties really were guys losing their composure. You’re playing a tough Baltimore team on the road, and you have 13 penalties for 120 yards http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/bradley-chubb-jersey , and it really honestly cost us 20 points out there,” coach Vance Joseph said. “So, that obviously killed us today.”It was a common sentiment across the locker room. But even if you erased those 20 points after penalties that cost Broncos their chance to score, it’s still just a 14-7 Broncos’ lead against what was supposedly a depleted Ravens’ defense - which is not going to cut it down the stretch. With three sacks and one interception among his stats, Case Keenum did not look like the rally QB he showed last week. And he knows it.“I’ve got to do a better job at getting the ball out at the correct time and to the correct receivers,” Keenum said. “It was a lot of things for us today. I missed some guys when they were open, and it seemed to me we had a lot of tipped balls.”That wasn’t exactly owning up to his mistakes in the game, but in his defense, Keenum was hit nine times in addition to the three sacks, so it was definitely a frustrating day for the signal caller.Veldheer knows that the offensive line can do better and that there will be plenty of “learning opportunities” on the film.“I know some technique stuff on my part wasn’t clean,” he acknowledged. “And I think there were just a whole ton of opportunities to get better. We’re a good team Womens Bradley Chubb Jersey , we’re going to take those opportunities to heart and improve on them.”Demaryius Thomas, who caught all five of his passes for 63 yards, tipped his hat to the Ravens for a good game plan and good execution.“The main thing is, of course, taking care of the ball,” Thomas said. “As an offense, we needed to do better at it. When the defense gets us the ball, we’ve got to do more with it and get points on the board.”Perhaps the most frustrating part for fans was that the Broncos came out on fire to start their first road test - a blocked punt by Joe Jones set up a first-and-goal that Royce Freeman took advantage of to put the Broncos on the board first. But then a 37-yard Ravens’ return on the following kickoff, capped with a 15-yard penalty, put the Ravens offense two yards into the Broncos’ field. Two plays in, Joe Flacco hit tight end Mark Andrews for a 30-yard play that moved Baltimore into the red zone and ultimately the end zone with a six-yard touchdown from Alex Collins. The Broncos’ offense responded with an eight-play Authentic Phillip Lindsay Jersey , eight-minute drive and a rushing touchdown from Emmanuel Sanders that seemingly had the Broncos humming. The defense couldn’t keep Flacco and his offense from driving, but they did hold the Ravens to just a field goal, maintaining their lead.Trading a couple of drives with punts, the Broncos’ defense seemed to have some momentum in pressuring Flacco and stopping the run. But the next drive, Flacco connected with Michael Crabtree and Javorius Allen down the field and into the end zone for an easy TD to take the lead. And then the wheels came off for the Broncos.Keenum threw short passes and an incomplete to force a three-and-out, and on the following Ravens’ drive, a blocked field goal attempt by Justin Simmons that was picked up and returned for a touchdown by Chris Harris Jr. was called back thanks to a phantom block above the waist call against Billy Turner.Although the Broncos got the ball back, a strip sack of Keenum two plays later ended in a dog pile of players fighting to get the ball.Refs thought running back Phillip Lindsay was throwing punches in the pile and ejected the rookie from the game.It was bogus in my opinion, but it was the beginning of the end, and Lindsay was one of the few players to take real ownership of his play on Sunday in the midst of the loss.“I feel horrible. I feel horrible because I wasn’t out there for my team, and that’s my fault. I definitely feel like I let my team down today http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/phillip-lindsay-jersey ,” said Lindsay who had racked up a five-yard per carry average on four touches before leaving the game midway through the second quarter. “[The coaches] told me, ‘I am a rookie and I need to understand that it’s bigger than myself.’ It’s true.”While the players were already talking about “learning from mistakes” and getting ready to beat the 3-0 Chiefs at home next Monday night, Sanders had a more sober reaction.Basically Broncos better get better or forget about 2018.“We blew it. Plain and simple. We blew it. A lot of penalties we can’t have. At the end of the day, we lost one game after winning the first two. We get back to work, that’s all we can do,” he said. “If we don’t grow from it, the same thing is going to happen over and over. We have to learn from our mistakes. We have guys in here that can do that, and we have guys here that will hold guys accountable in making sure that won’t happen again.”

we need to address My immediate thought after Seattle Seahawk’s 27-24 defeat to the Denver Broncos was that Russell Wilson had a bad game. This was despite his passer rating of 92.7 Cheap Tyler Lockett Jersey , his 9 yards per attempt and his three touchdowns. I felt everything he hit was one- or first-read, that he couldn’t operate well within a structure and that he sacked himself. When watching the All-22—a football nerd’s enlightenment—my initial takeaways were confirmed. I had a Han Solo in The Force Awakens moment:I feel comic relief is necessary, because writing that Wilson has negatives in his game is a ‘Seahawks sin.’ Criticizing Wilson is controversial among fans. Pete Carroll didn’t have to answer a single Wilson question last Sunday. And critiquing Wilson is something that isn’t even done by the coaches themselves—if you believe some disgruntled ex-Seahawks. Indeed, the appointment of Brian Schottenheimer came with a strong message from Carroll. He wanted Schottenheimer to hold Wilson far more accountable. Carroll himself criticized his quarterback on his Monday 710 ESPN radio show:Admittedly, Wilson was sluggish in the opening games of 2017 and 2016. In that pair of showings, he combined for 72-111, 667 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and a 79.67 passer rating. But these bad habits and traits I speak of were on display all of last year. Wilson’s career-best statistics in near-impossible conditions should not blind us from the actual performances he put on tape. In actuality, it can be argued that 2017 was Wilson’s worst as a pro from a technique and process standpoint. He carried his team remarkably, in a situation where no other quarterback could. Nonetheless, the terrible pass protection saw him add deeply disturbing aspects to his game, such as a scrambled internal clock and bizarre decisions. He was fortunate not to have 20+ interceptions last season. This Denver game has me worrying that those issues remain—behind what is better protection and within a refreshed scheme. For this reason, I think these signs are more than early season cobwebs. On a more macro level http://www.seahawkscheapshops.com/cheap-...-nick-vannett-jersey , it also raises some reasonable questions about how Wilson will fare as a signal-caller as he continues to age. Reading DefensesOf Wilson’s 19 completions against the Broncos, 12 of the passes were either a one-read play or a first-read. A one-read play would be stuff like a bubble screen or a running back slip screen. His first-read plays were things like the big play-action targets to Will Dissly or the backshoulder versus off-man coverage to Brandon Marshall. Beautifully placed throws, sure, but not the result of advanced processing.Three of the remaining seven completed tosses were checkdowns. That leaves just four plays where Wilson made multiple reads to move the ball downfield. You can point towards successful game-planning as a reason for the large proportion of the first-read or one-read passes. That’s fair. Nevertheless, Wilson is a quarterback who has two processing issues. One is reading zone defense. The other is locking on to his first read and taking too long to move on to his second. This is particularly common when he is looking to go deep against man coverage. On this 3rd and 7, Wilson fools for the disguised cover 2. He thinks the Broncos are bringing the house, so tries to throw to Marshall hot. The pre-snap process is understandable. However, following through with the decision is not. This pre-determination features a dreadful, floating pass that he lobs off his backfoot. At no point does he register the dropping underneath defender, instead trying to look off a non-existent single-high safety for what he thinks is a cover 1 heavy blitz. Wilson’s lack of awareness extends to his pre-snap cadence too. He is fake hiking as Justin Britt is adjusting the protection. To a defense, that is nowhere close to believable trickery. This tweet of Britt talking cadence with Wilson interested me:On another third down, this time third and three earlier later in the first, Wilson showed a lack of anticipation. This may stem from a slowness in processing against zone. He knows the boundary side coverage is zone from Tyler Lockett’s pre-snap motion being unfollowed by the defense.Yet, after correctly choosing not to throw to Dissly’s drag route over the middle J.R. Sweezy Jersey , Wilson delays a crucial extra moment trying to make sure the hook zone of the linebacker isn’t robbing the quick out route. With better anticipation/faster processing, Wilson chooses this open pass faster and it isn’t tipped at the line of scrimmage. As it was, he hesitated, allowing defensive tackle Adam Gotsis to get hands to the pass. The outcome is a missed opportunity via an incompletion. The next play is an example of Wilson’s issues with locking on versus man. It’s the first snap of the Seahawks’ 2018 offense. They’ll have spoken about setting the tone, doing things as they mean to go on and executing as a unit. And then Wilson’s slow processing saw him get sacked. Seattle’s play-action scissors concept involves a seven-man protection with a full slide to the left—in order to sell the run design and buy Wilson time. Denver runs cover 1—which scissors eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What the protection scheme doesn’t account for is the Broncos sending their nearside corner after no receiver enters his vicinity. That means the corner is unblocked and heading for Wilson.Still, Wilson should still make this play. With a clear passing lane for either route, he gets caught staring down the inside-to-outside route of slot receiver Tyler Lockett. It’s like he is willing that option open. As soon as Wilson sees the clear man coverage and the deep safety drive over the top of Lockett’s route, he should switch to the open over route of outside receiver Doug Baldwin. After all it’s how the two-route concept is designed.Wilson doesn’t get close to this outcome. Rather than progressing or even keeping his eyes downfield, his eyes duck to the rush and the Seahawks offense gets off to a terrible start to the season. It should have been a great beginning.Playing in StructureWilson is at his best working outside a play’s structure and extending it. But, as will be covered in more detail, his favored backside escape style is exploited by defensive coordinators and he doesn’t have the speed to consistently outrun EDGEs anymore. In Week 1, the structure of one-read play-action plays really helped him, but he struggled on non-play-action dropbacks. He has had difficulty with operating consistently in structure throughout his career. The Seahawks have been trying to develop Wilson as more of a pocket passer who operates in a structure for some time. The partial remit of Schottenheimer will be to hone more of these skills. Although at 30-years-old http://www.seahawkscheapshops.com/cheap-...c-tom-johnson-jersey , maybe this is just who Wilson is. How much can a quarterback really learn at this age?Right after that disappointing sack on the play-action scissors, Schottenheimer attempted to get the offense back to a rhythm with a quick passing concept. It’s effectively a switch spot concept, a simple hi-lo designed to separate against man or zone for fast yardage.Denver runs a cover 1 press pass defense, with a switch in man coverage to negate the rub that the Seahawks were planning in their route concept. Wilson, after looking left and registering the man defense, has his first read, the quick hitch to Baldwin, taken away. That shouldn’t be an issue though. After all, it’s a hi-lo concept. He just needs to progress to Will Dissly’s deeper hitch and hit it for a nice gain. Dissly has all the leverage for the inside throw. This is where things get concerning. Wilson barely glances at the open target, and then senses ghost pressure. The protection is perfect for the quick passing concept. Wilson has a clear lane to see and find Dissly. The ball should be out sharp. That’s not the case here. Wilson’s ‘feel’ of the supposed pressure sees him scramble backwards and then right in an attempt to extend the play, rather than staying within the structure. His clock is frazzled more than the bacon I had this morning and his reads are broken; on the second play of 2018! The eventual throw to Dissly falls incomplete. In Part II, I’ll go over Wilson’s mechanics, Wilson against the blitz, and his pocket awareness.Read Part II Here! The gameday inactives for the Seattle Seahawks-Detroit Lions are out Cheap Michael Dickson Jersey , and really the only big names on the Seahawks side are special teams gunner and reserve CB Neiko Thorpe, who was injured midweek during practice, and rookie DE Rasheem Green, who still isn’t quite back from his ankle sprain. Also of note is that backup center Joey Hunt is inactive, so perhaps Ethan Pocic would be the backup to Justin Britt in case something happens to him. What is great news is that starting linebacker K.J. Wright is in the lineup again after missing the preious six games with a knee injury. For the Lions, veteran running back Theo Riddick is out, as is one of their top pass-rushers, the oft-injured Ziggy Ansah. Number 45 Rontez Miles Our Jets roster countdown now looks at Rontez Miles.Name: Rontez MilesNumber: 45Year with Jets: 6thProjected Role: Backup safety and ace special teamerHis 2017: Miles backed up Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye at safety. His biggest impact Womens Neal Sterling Jersey , however, came on special teams. Miles was among the league leaders in special teams tackles with 16.2018 will be a success if: Miles returns from a knee injury and provides the Jets with a quality backup safety to go with quality special teams play. Rontez is currently on the PUP list, and the timeline of his injury suggests he might begin the season on that list. Once he returns, he could be the third safety.Odds of making the roster: This isn’t totally applicable since he could be on the PUP list to start the regular season. Once he is eligible, the odds the Jets of keeping him are Probable (75-99%). Much has been made about the challenges thrown at Sam Darnold this early in his career. He had to play 3 games in 10 days out of the gate. 3 of his first 4 games were on the road. He has faced a terrifying cluster of defenses. So, with all of that in mind, I was curious to see what the numbers said about the difficulty of Darnold’s start. How tough of a schedule has Darnold faced through five weeks compared to the rest of the league’s starting quarterbacks?I looked at the 30 quarterbacks in the league who have thrown at least 100 passing attempts to this point in time. For each Authentic Spencer Long Jersey , I went through their schedule and compiled the average pass defense DVOA of their opponents.DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) is a signature stat of Football Outsiders that weights the raw numbers based on game situations and opponents in order to get a more accurate gauge on true value. Here are the results, with 30 quarterbacks ranked by the average pass defense DVOA rankings of their opponents.Darnold checks in with the third-hardest slate of pass defenses faced. After kicking off the year against Detroit’s #29 pass defense, Darnold had a tough three-game stretch against the #5 Dolphins, the #2 Browns, and the #3 Jaguars. He got back into the win column against the Broncos’ #18 unit.Only Marcus Mariota and Derek Carr have had a rougher group of pass defenses opposite them through the early part of the season. Among rookies, Darnold has had the hardest run. Josh Allen checks in a few spots behind at 7th, while Baker Mayfield is in the middle of the pack at 16th. Josh Rosen has not even thrown 60 passes yet Authentic Kelvin Beachum Jersey , so he missed the qualification cutoff. His two starts were against Seattle’s #8 pass defense unit and San Francisco’s #23 unit. The rest of the Jets’ schedule presents a mixed bag. The Jets have a few games left against teams ranked highly at the moment but don’t seem to have the talent to hold up their current spots. The team still has two games against the Bills, who are currently ranked 7th, and one against the Dolphins, who as mentioned are ranked 5th.The Jets will take on Minnesota in a couple of weeks. The Vikings are currently way down at 26th in pass defense DVOA, but that is a team loaded with talent that seems due to start climbing that ladder. The Jets also have a road date with the current top-ranked pass defense in the Chicago Bears.

to the Houston Texans in a game that included the starting quarterback being benched Youth Andrew Norwell Jersey , the leading running back gaining 28 yards on the ground, and four sacks on backup quarterback Cody Kessler, veteran defensive players Calais Campbell and Telvin Smith called a players-only meeting.Typically, these meetings are meant to act as a sort of reset during a watershed time in the season, a Come-to-Jesus moment if you will. After emerging from the meeting, Campbell was asked about the decision between Blake Bortles and Cody Kessler. Who should continue as the starter? What’s the best way forward for this team?“I still believe in Blake. I understand Coach’s decision, and I respect it. At the same time, I believe in Blake. He’s just got to take care of the ball. It’s as simple as that. Cody came in and played a great ball game. I wish we could have won the game and it would have been incredible. But he did bring a little spark. I have seen that in practice Cheap Dede Westbrook Jersey , and I was confident in him.”With Bortles named the starter for at least the Week 8 matchup in London against the Philadelphia Eagles, Campbell got his wish.6 bold predictions for Jaguars vs. Patriots The Jacksonville Jaguars are minutes away from their home opener against the New England Patriots! Before the game begins, we wanted to ask the Big Cat Country team (and you!) a simple question:“How will the Jaguars do against the Patriots today?”Alfie Crow (@AlfieBCC)The Jaguars are gonna win, baby.Jaguars win 27-20Ryan Day (@ryaneatscake)Couldn’t agree more, Alfie.Jaguars win 26-20Jon Kirland (@BCBCouch)“Good Blake” tends to show up when we least expect him to, and I think for all the hoopla surrounding whether or not Fournette plays it will end up being a moot point, as “Good Blake” plays a Seahawks-like game and Jaguars melt the Patriots away.Jaguars win 27-16Ryan O’Bleness (@ryanobleness)I expect this to be another hard-fought, close game throughout its entirety. Both teams are dealing with injuries at the running back position Cheap Ronnie Harrison Jersey , so whichever team can control the line of scrimmage, control the clock and limit mistakes despite the injuries will be in prime position for a victory. With all of that said, I feel that the Jaguars still have something to prove. In front of a huge home crowd, I think Jacksonville gets it done late in the contest.Jaguars win 27-24Brian Fullford (@iambwf)This game is about one thing, and one thing only: Discipline. The machine that is the New England Patriots will thrive off everything the Jaguars do wrong, and the Jaguars cannot find themselves dropping passes, missing reads, and committing penalties that negate advancement. I trust the coaching staff to learn from their AFCC game mistakes.I do not trust the Patriots offensive line to protect Tom Brady. Yannick Ngakoue Cheap Telvin Smith Jersey , who missed a bulk of the AFCC game will dominate like he did last week. Also, look for Dante Fowler to play for respect. Jaguars get six sacks and two interceptions.Remember Brady’s game against the Denver Broncos in the 2015 playoffs? This will be his worst game since then.Jaguars win 27-17Filip Prus (@JaxonFil)If there was ever a time to beat the Patriots, the time is now. Sure, there is a long season ahead of us with fourteen more games, but if not now, then when? Expect a lot of field goals in this one, and I’m visualizing a two minute drill situation for Bortles where he does just enough with his legs to get the Jaguars in field goal range for a game winning Lambo kick.Jaguars win 16-13What do you think? Got any predictions for the Jaguars vs. Giants game? What do you think the final score will be? Let us know in the comments below!

We know better than to get our hopes up. When it comes to the Denver Broncos and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Cheap Derek Wolfe Jersey , that’s how it works. If you play for the Broncos, no matter how great you were, the only way you’ll get in is if you buy a ticket to the supposed museum in Canton, Ohio, that supposedly honors the greatness of pro football. Yet for some reason, that supposed museum refuses to accept that there were great players who did in fact play in Denver. The most recent example is Randy Gradishar. The Broncos linebacker should already have his bust in the Hall of Fame, and had he played in (enter city here), he would. But yet again, the Seniors Committee – this year it was Ron Borges, Rick Gosselin, Jeff Legwold, Ira Miller and Dan Pompei – continued the snub theme.Rest assured, we’ll hear the same bullshit from these five men that we always hear. You know, “this was a difficult decision” and how “there are so many deserving players” 鈥?blah, blah, blah. Spare us the same old tired excuses. Gradishar is one of the greatest to ever play the game, and the fact these five men can’t/don’t/are unwilling to recognize that is beyond reproach and unacceptable — but not unexpected. Don’t take it from me. Hall of Fame defensive lineman Merlin Olsen:Hall of Fame wide receiver Steve Largent: Let’s add one more powerful quote to highlight how badly they got this wrong yet again.Jim Saccomano told me this last summer for the story I wrote earlier this week: It’s a shame and sham that Gradishar is not in the Hall of Fame. It’s one of the most absurd wrongs in NFL and pro football history. But it’s not unexpected. When you play for the Broncos or own the Broncos, the contributions you made to the game don’t matter. It’s as if they didn’t happen. It’s as if the Broncos don’t exist.Case Keenum’s greatest stat in the win over the Seahawks? Rebounds. Perhaps the most impressive part of Case Keenum’s official Broncos’ debut on Sunday was not his three touchdowns to help erase his three interceptions. It was the fact that he still led the Broncos in scoring touchdowns despite throwing those interceptions.Basically, Keenum wasn’t afraid. And that confidence to sling it again paid big dividends, most evident in the fourth quarter when the Broncos were down 24-20, and Keenum had already turned the ball over nearly half as many times in one game as he did all last season. But No. 4 hit Courtland Sutton for 25 yards on a second-and-five play, followed by an eight-yard strike to Sanders and eventually a 33-yard laser to Jake Butt that drew a penalty and put the Broncos on Seattle’s four-yard line. Keenum then threaded a very tight needle to Demaryius Thomas in the end zone for the go-ahead score.“It’s playing the next play. The game is still in our hands,” Keenum said after the game. “You’ve got to forget about everything that you’ve done and play the next play.”And that message helped the defense as much as the offense.Speaking to Andrew Mason of First and 10 @ 10, Will Parks repeated a familiar offseason theme that it’s definitely a more complete Broncos team with an offense that can help win the game.“Mase, it’s 2018; 2017 over with,” he joked. “We’ve got ‘4’ back there. ‘4’ is great guy. Even when he had the turnovers, he came back to the sidelines smiling, ‘We good, D, we good,’ and I was like Youth Garett Bolles Jersey , ‘ok, we good!’ That’s the kind of guy you want back there.”Parks noted earlier in the conversation that a key message to the defense all offseason was “trust” - and that was carrying over between the offense and defense too.“Trust has ‘us’ in it. We’ve got to trust in each other, believe in each other and everything else will play itself out,” Parks said. “If any guys are making mistakes on or off the field, then we have to pick them up because the guys we are going into the season with will be the guys we go to the Super Bowl with.”Keenum was definitely handing out kudos to his new defensive teammates. Following a first offensive drive that ended in a punt, the defense sacked Russell Wilson on the first play before sending the Seahawks’ offense to the bench two plays later. But on the Broncos’ next series, Keenum threw an interception on the third play of the drive, setting up Wilson and his offense on the Broncos’ 15-yard line. The Seahawks scored, but Keenum and his playmakers bounced back with a seven-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in a 29-yard touchdown from undrafted rookie sensation Phillip Lindsay. The Broncos’ D-line then stuffed the Seahawks’ ground game, forcing a second three-and-out.That rhythm became the game - the offense would score, giving the defense some breathing room to “pin its ears back” and play aggressive ball. That aggressive D was able to extract two interceptions (one on the last play of the game) and two fumble recoveries to go along with six sacks.“I think defensively, getting the ball back three times was great,” Keenum noted. “The big stop when we needed it at the end, another stop that led to points. I think they did a great job today, they saved my butt. I appreciate those guys.”But the offense did the defense a solid too. Staying on the field for extended drives - even ones that ultimately ended in punts - gave the defense some much needed rest. Time of possession by the Broncos’ offense was 35 minutes, compared to Seattle’s 25. That can make a big difference, especially in the thin Rocky Mountain air. Parks reiterated his mutual trust for Keenum as the signal caller.“That’s the kind of guy you want out there,” he said. “You don’t want a guy that’s going to mope and pout [after something happens.] He believes in us, and he trusts us.”Coach Vance Joseph was obviously not happy about the picks but told Dave Logan on First and 10 @ 10 that he, too, was happy to see how Keenum bounced back - and trusted himself. “I was really pleased how he came back after the turnover,” Joseph said. “After that first one he threw four or five passes and we’re in the end zone, so he did respond and he kept battling. And that was fun to see because adversity is going to happen, especially with the quarterback, but you want your team leader to bounce back and be resilient and fight through that adversity.”Although Joseph would like his quarterback to be more mindful of the down and distance on first and second down - and “live to see another down” rather than trying to make a play - he liked the confidence in Keenum.“Case is a great competitor,” Joseph said, “so when he makes those mistakes, he wants to rectify them and get them right for us.”
